MACHINE DESCRIPTION

Optima Recycling manufactures high-performance plastic granulator blades and crusher blades for industrial plastic recycling, size reduction, and reprocessing applications. Our blades are supplied direct from our factory in Changzhou, China, offering OEM-grade quality at competitive pricing with fast delivery worldwide.

Whether you need replacement rotor knives, bed knives, or fixed crusher blades, we manufacture to your machine specifications — standard dimensions or fully custom drawings accepted.

What Are Plastic Granulator Blades?

Plastic granulator blades (also called granulator knives, crusher blades, or grinder knives) are the core cutting components inside plastic granulators, crushers, and shredders. They work in pairs — a rotating rotor blade (fly knife) and a stationary bed blade (fixed knife) — to shear plastic materials into uniform small particles or flakes through a controlled scissor-like cutting action.

The cutting efficiency, output particle size, energy consumption, and blade service life all depend directly on the blade material, edge geometry, hardness, and dimensional accuracy. Choosing the right plastic granulator blade is critical to your production uptime and cost-per-hour.

Compatible Machine Types & Applications

Our plastic granulator blades and crusher blades are compatible with:

Machine Types

  • Plastic granulators (beside-the-press, central granulators, heavy-duty)

  • Single-shaft shredders

  • Double-shaft shredders

  • Plastic crushers and grinding machines

  • Pelletizer cutting heads (strand pelletizer, underwater pelletizer)

Materials Processed

  • Hard plastics: ABS, PC, Nylon (PA), PMMA, POM

  • Semi-rigid plastics: PP, HDPE, LDPE containers and pipes

  • Film and fiber: PET film, PP woven bags, non-woven fabric

  • Engineering resins: glass-fiber reinforced grades, rubber-plastic compounds

  • Post-consumer recyclate: PET bottles, HDPE drums, mixed plastic bales

  • Rubber and cable insulation (for combined recycling lines)

Material Selection Guide: H13 vs D2 vs SKD11

Selecting the correct steel grade is the most important factor in maximizing plastic granulator blade life. We offer four standard materials:

H13 Tool Steel (Hot Work Steel)

  • Hardness: HRC 52–56

  • Best for: heavy-impact applications, rigid plastics (ABS, PC, nylon), regrind with glass fiber

  • Advantages: exceptional toughness and resistance to thermal cracking; less prone to chipping under high shock loads

  • Recommended for: large granulators, heavy-duty crushers, thick-wall plastic components

D2 Tool Steel (High-Chromium Cold Work Steel)

  • Hardness: HRC 58–62

  • Best for: standard plastic recycling, PET bottles, PE film, PP containers

  • Advantages: high wear resistance, cost-effective, widely used as a universal granulator blade material

  • Recommended for: mid-range granulators, general-purpose plastic size reduction

SKD11 Tool Steel (JIS Equivalent of D2)

  • Hardness: HRC 58–62

  • Best for: precision cutting of thin-wall plastic, PVC, film scrap

  • Advantages: superior dimensional stability after heat treatment, very uniform carbide distribution for a cleaner cut edge

  • Recommended for: inline granulators, beside-the-press units, film and fiber recycling

Alloy Steel (Custom Specification)

  • Hardness: HRC 50–58 (adjustable by heat treatment specification)

  • Best for: budget-sensitive applications with moderate wear requirements

  • Recommended for: light-duty granulators, soft plastics (PE, PP film)

Why Source Plastic Granulator Blades from Optima Recycling?

Factory-Direct Manufacturing
We are a direct manufacturer — not a trading company. Every plastic granulator blade is produced in-house at our Changzhou facility using CNC grinding centers and precision heat treatment furnaces. No middlemen means better quality control and lower pricing.

Full Granulator Blade Ecosystem
Because Optima also manufactures complete plastic granulators, shredders, and recycling systems, our blade engineers understand exactly how the cutting chamber geometry affects blade performance. You get blades engineered by people who build the machines.

Custom OEM & Reverse Engineering
Send us your worn blade, a drawing, or just the machine brand and model number. We will replicate or improve your existing blade in the correct material with tighter tolerances. Most custom crusher blade orders are completed within 10 working days.

Proven Material & Heat Treatment Process
All blades undergo vacuum heat treatment with post-processing straightness checks. H13, D2, and SKD11 grades are sourced from certified Chinese specialty steel mills. Hardness testing reports available per batch on request.

Global Shipping & Packaging
Blades are individually wrapped in anti-rust oil paper and packed in wooden export crates. We ship by DHL, FedEx, sea freight, or air freight depending on order size and urgency. Available to all major markets: EU, USA, Southeast Asia, Middle East, and Latin America.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the difference between a rotor blade and a bed blade in a plastic granulator?
A: The rotor blade (fly knife) is mounted on the spinning rotor and moves at high RPM. The bed blade (fixed knife) is bolted stationary to the cutting chamber. Plastic is sheared between the two blades in a scissor action. Both need to be matched in material and geometry for optimal performance. We manufacture both types as a matched set.

Q: How do I know when my plastic granulator blades need replacing?
A: Key indicators include: increased noise or vibration during operation, a rise in fine dust or powder output (vs clean flakes), higher power consumption, uneven or elongated particle shape, and visible chipping or rounding of the cutting edge. Worn blades also increase the risk of overheating and machine stress. We recommend inspection every 200–500 operating hours depending on material hardness.

Q: Can you make crusher blades to my machine's dimensions?
A: Yes. We accept custom orders based on your drawings (PDF, DXF, or STEP files), worn samples, or machine brand/model information. Our engineering team will confirm dimensional specifications and recommend the correct material grade. There is no tooling charge for standard flat-profile blades.

Q: What is the minimum order quantity for custom plastic granulator blades?
A: For custom-profile blades, the MOQ is typically 5 pieces per specification. For standard sizes we hold in stock, lower quantities are available. Contact us with your requirements for a precise quotation.

Q: How should I store and maintain granulator blades to extend service life?
A: Store unused blades flat, wrapped in anti-rust packaging, away from moisture. When installing, ensure the mounting surfaces are clean and the blade-to-blade clearance is set to your machine manufacturer's specification (typically 0.1–0.3 mm). Overtightened or undertightened clearances are the primary cause of premature edge failure. Resharpening is possible up to 3–5 times depending on blade geometry before replacement is required.
